The Smolensk Region has come under a mass drone attack, according to the regional leader
Multiple Ukrainian drones have targeted civilian infrastructure in Russia’s Smolensk Region, and at least one unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was reportedly intercepted near a nuclear power facility, regional Governor Vasily Anokhin said on Wednesday morning.
Russian air defense and electronic warfare systems engaged several hostile targets during a “mass drone attack” on civilian facilities across different districts of the Smolensk Region, Anokhin wrote on Telegram.
“According to preliminary information, one of the drones was shot down during an attempted attack on a nuclear power facility,” Anokhin stated, without naming the facility. Some reports indicate that debris fell near the Smolenskaya Nuclear Power Plant.
No casualties or damage were immediately reported, the governor said. He urged residents to stay calm and avoid open spaces as authorities addressed the situation.
Russia’s regions of Bryansk, Tver, and Nizhny Novgorod also came under coordinated attacks overnight, according to local officials.
Bryansk Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz confirmed that air defenses intercepted 26 drones. Tver Region Governor Igor Rudenya reported that at least 14 UAVs were shot down over the Toropets district, northwest of Moscow. Meanwhile, Nizhny Novgorod Governor Gleb Nikitin said a Ukrainian drone strike triggered a fire in an industrial zone in the city of Kstovo.

Kiev has repeatedly engaged in “energy and nuclear terrorism” against Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry wrote in its Tuesday report on war crimes by the Ukrainian regime.
According to the ministry, over the past year, more than 3,500 UAV attacks have targeted energy facilities, including the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant and nearby infrastructure in Energodar, posing significant risks of radiation contamination. Daily strikes on power substations and energy infrastructure have left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity, while residential homes, hospitals, maternity wards, and educational institutions have also been targeted, the ministry stated.
